DPF Removal & ECU Recalibration

When a diesel particulate filter becomes severely blocked or damaged beyond repair, replacement can cost £1,000–£3,000+ from a main dealer. DPF removal offers a cost-effective alternative that eliminates the root cause of the problem.

Our DPF removal service includes full ECU recalibration to ensure your engine runs smoothly without the DPF system. All related fault codes, dashboard warnings, and regeneration cycles are permanently removed through software.

With over a decade of experience, EcoMax Tuning provides expert DPF solutions across Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

DPF Removal Legalities

A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is an emissions control device fitted by the manufacturer to reduce harmful soot emissions from diesel vehicles.

Under current UK legislation, it is illegal to use a vehicle on public roads if the DPF has been removed or disabled where it was originally fitted by the manufacturer. Since February 2014, MOT tests have included checks for the presence of a DPF, and a missing DPF will result in an MOT failure. Vehicles that no longer comply with their original emissions standards may also be subject to penalties and insurance implications.

For this reason, customers should carefully consider the legal implications before choosing any DPF removal solution. We always recommend that customers research the current legislation and make an informed decision based on how their vehicle is used.

Many DPF-related faults can often be resolved through professional diagnosis, repair, regeneration, or DPF cleaning. We offer a range of solutions including on-car cleaning, off-car machine cleaning, repairs and replacement advice, alongside DPF removal options where requested.

Please note that it is the vehicle owner's responsibility to ensure their vehicle complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Under current UK legislation, it is illegal to use a vehicle on public roads if the DPF has been removed or disabled where it was originally fitted by the manufacturer. Since February 2014, MOT tests have included a visual check for the presence of a DPF. We always discuss the legal implications with customers before proceeding and offer cleaning alternatives where appropriate — it is the vehicle owner's responsibility to ensure their vehicle complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

DPF removal involves physically removing the diesel particulate filter from the exhaust system and recalibrating the engine ECU to remove all DPF-related software functions. This prevents fault codes and warning lights from appearing.

Our DPF removal solution is £590 for most vehicles. This includes physical DPF removal, the DPF system switched off within the ECU software, the EGR system switched off via software/remap, plus a lifetime warranty against future DPF and EGR-related faults. Some vehicles may require additional labour or parts — please contact us with your registration number for an accurate quotation. 0% interest-free finance is available with no credit checks.

After DPF removal, most vehicles experience improved throttle response, better fuel economy (typically 5-15% improvement), increased power output, and elimination of regeneration cycles that cause performance dips.

Our goal is for your car to pass a normal MOT. We carefully cut and modify in areas that are as discreet as possible. While some visual signs of modification may remain, we weld and cover the work with a metal plate. In our experience, about 95% of vehicles still pass a normal MOT with this approach.

Once the DPF is removed, there may be minimal smoke under hard acceleration. However, if your vehicle is healthy — no boost leaks, injector issues, or oil burning — smoke will be very minimal. The catalytic converter remains in place to control emissions. While we can't guarantee emissions results, in our experience healthy vehicles do pass a normal MOT.
